APO FamFest

Event Information:

FamFest is a day-long family fun festival for all ages at the beautiful Wolf Pen Creek featuring live music, along with family–oriented games and activities, arts, crafts and food vendors.

Talent from the Brazos Valley will fill two stages from 11 a.m. until approximately 5:30 p.m.   Concurrently, there will be a midway and carnival games and family activities in the adjacent festival grounds.

The headliner of the evening will be country music award winner, Rodney Atkins.  He will be preceded by Greg Bates beginning around 6:30.

The event is hosted by Aggieland Pregnancy Outreach (APO), a non-profit which focuses on children born from unplanned pregnancies.  The day is designed to unite families, honor children and promote adoption.

Request for Volunteers

We are in need of volunteers to work in four-hour shifts throughout the day. Volunteers receive a t-shirt and one free concert ticket.

Job Descriptions:

Load In/Out – Help as needed hauling band and stage equipment.

Security – T-Shirt security to enforce rules, monitor a specified area of festival grounds, patrol perimeters, entries/check-points, provide parking lot security as assigned. Strict “hands off” monitoring.

Ticketing – Ticket/wrist-band sales, greeters, watch for violations and report to security, enforce guidelines (no coolers, etc.), provide information as needed.

Hospitality – Make sure complimentary snacks and beverages are available in specified areas for volunteer entertainers, staff and volunteers throughout the day.

Grounds Keeping – Make sure grounds are free of clutter/trash; empty receptacles when full. Wolf Pen Creek will provide replacement trash bags and disposal site

Set-up/Take-down – Assist Friday and/or Saturday with setting up and taking down markers, signs, banners, equipment, etc.

Anything – Means you are open to whatever needs to be done.

6th Annual Armadillo Dash

The Sixth Annual Armadillo Dash Half Marathon & 5K is slated for Sunday, March 4, 2012. Run or walk for your health AND to help kids in our community!

Volunteers Needed to Deliver Thanksgiving Meals

Epicures Catering will be preparing its annual Thanksgiving meal on Thanksgiving day. Food for the meal is provided by the Brazos Valley Food Bank and is open to the public – anyone who needs a meal that day is welcome to either dine at their location or sign up for a home-delivered meal. Volunteers are needed to deliver meals to the disabled and homebound. Monetary Donations can also be made at The Bank & Trust.

Christmas at the Creek – Volunteers Needed!

Christmas at the Creek is a month-long holiday celebration that includes more than 1 million lights decorating the beautiful Wolf Pen Creek area. In its 27-year history, Christmas at the Creek has attracted more than 2 million visitors, including many who have made Christmas at the Creek an annual family tradition.

Special activities are scheduled for the first two weekends in December, starting with a Bring Your Pets night on Saturday, December 3. Pets can take their owners on a stroll through the park and pose for photos with Santa. On  Saturday December 10 there will a Holiday Baking Contest. December. 2-3 and 9-10, visitors can tour the park on an old fashioned hayride and enjoy free cookies, hot cocoa, live entertainment, reindeer games, free photos with Santa and more.

In addition, Santa will take a break from his Christmas preparations to drop in for photos with the children.

Saturday December 3rd from 2pm-5pm

Sunday December 4th from 5pm-9pm

Saturday December 10th from 2pm-5pm

Sunday December 11th from 12pm-6pm.

“Lets Have a Ball”

All the “Big Kids” are invited to have a ball!

The Children’s Museum of the Brazos Valley is hosting Let’s Have a Ball October 6th at the Hilton of College Station. There will be live and silent auctions, fun games, and great food. Plus, live music from Southern Echo.

Come in your jeans, this is going to be a real ball!

This fund raiser will go to supporting our local Children’s Museum.

SARC Advocate Training

BRYAN, TX. – The Sexual Assault Resource Center will begin its 71st Advocate Training Class on Monday, March 12th, 2012.  The training class is open to individuals interested in serving as advocates for survivors of sexual assault, their family members and loved ones.

Advocates staff the 24-hour crisis hotline as well as accompany sexual assault survivors to local hospitals, law enforcement agencies, and court proceedings.

Participants will complete a training course covering the legal and medical arenas of sexual assault, as well as crisis intervention techniques and more. Upon completion of the 40 hour course, advocates are certified through the Office of Attorney General.

Interested parties may contact Audrey Bohannon at (979) 731-1000 between 8am and 5pm, Monday through Friday. Prospective advocates must fill out an application and schedule an interview prior to entrance into the training program.  Applicants must be at least 18 years old and pass a criminal background check.
